Every fall, Capitola hosts a mass of mermaids participating in one of the best all women triathlons and duathlons on the West Coast.
The Title Nine Mermaid Race Series returns to the little city by the sea this weekend – head to Capitola on Saturday, October 7, 2017 to watch mermaids in action as they swim, bike and run across the finish line.
The T9 Mermaid Tri and Du Capitola offers race participants a fun and competitive ocean swim around the Capitola wharf, a bike course that climbs into the coastal redwoods, and a run on the ocean bluff overlooking Capitola Village.
In 2004, the athletic organization, Title Nine, facilitated their first triathlon and duathlon event designed specifically for women, called The Mermaid. Since then, they have continued to expand their fitness event series to encourage women from all backgrounds to seek out adventure and live healthy lifestyles. The exhilirating event welcomes participants of all ages and levels. In addition to the adult races, there is also a Mermaid Beach Dash that gives young competitors the chance to test out their land and sea legs as well.
Whether you’re a race participant or cheering bystander, the Mermaid Series is yet another great opportunity to experience Capitola’s vibrant community and environment. The race course features stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, close proximity to Capitola’s shops, galleries, and restaurants, and a chance to mingle with inspiring mermaids!
